Dynamic RAM, or DRAM, is the most common type computers use. It’s cheap and effective, but needs to be refreshed thousands of times per second to hold data, meaning data can be lost if it isn’t constantly refreshed.

Static RAM (SRAM) is more expensive than DRAM, but it’s faster and more reliable, which is why it’s used in small amounts as cache memory inside the CPU. Cache memory stores the data and instructions the CPU uses most often, so they can be accessed quickly.

Speed
